Dr. Laura Lund   did her PhD research in my Particle Flow Research Lab on visualization of flow fields in the Hattler Respiratory Support Catheter.

Dr. Lund started a company with Dr. Hattler,   ALung Technologies, to continue development of the Hattler Respiratory Support Catheter.

 

Since the COVID epidemic in 2021,
a next generation of the Hattler Respiratory Support System, the
The HEMOLUNG® System – ALung Technologies, Inc.

has been used to support COVID patients in acute respiratory failure.

Using the flow imaging technology I invented and patented to visualize and measure blood flow
driven by the micro-turbine (5mm diameter) in the Hattler Respiratory Catheter.
The micro-turbine is spinning at 5000 RPM.
High speed video was taken at 7300 frames/sec.

Below is a PTV map of the Lagrangian trajectories of tracer particles using the FITV technique of Patent 5,333,044.   Each trajectory is pseudocolored by the average speed along the trajectory.  
Each trajectory is numbered for statistical flow analyses.
