Pittsburgh- Saturday night at Coolpeppers Hothouse in Lawrenceville Josh Pollock
officially announced his candidacy for mayor of Pittsburgh. At the time of
the announcement, Josh was playing with his band Five 8 Five to a crowd of over
100 people, mainly teenagers. In fact, Pollock invites other mayoral candidates
Mark Rauterkus, Tom Murphy, and Bob O'Conner to join he and his band Five 8 Five
onstage. After leaving office, current President Bill Clinton is also invited
for the jam session.
Pollock, declaring his candidacy, said, "This is for all of you, and this
is for everybody in the city." Further, he implored people to get in
touch with him so that they can also get involved in the political process.
Pollock hopes to reach out to the city's youth, but also to everybody who shares
his ideals.
Monday afternoon,Pollock will register his campaign with the election board. He
is hoping to arrive at 4:15, before the office closes.
A problem that Pollock will face Monday is arriving in time following his school
day. Pollock is a senior at CAPA, the Pittsburgh School for Creative and
Performing Arts, which happens to have the longest school day of any Pittsburgh
Public School. Port Authority Transit, Pollock's preferred transportation
provider, is unable to get him downtown on time through its regularly scheduled
service. Conveniently, Pollock's Special Agent Numero Uno, otherwise known as
campaign manager Mike Garber, a junior at CAPA, will be able to drive the
candidate to the County Office Building. The two plan to go downtown immediately
after school, and then, literally run for mayor from their parking space to the
election board offices.
Following the filing of the election papers, Pollock the high school student
will proceed to the post office to mail his latest college application.
After all, if Pollock is unsuccessful at the mayoral election, he hopes for
success in college.
