TMC’s Technicolor Unity program defends human and civil rights

Merton Center members marched on June 15 in the Gay Pride parade through Shadyside, demonstrating the Center’s support of the human and civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals. This action is another expression of TMC’s mission to "raise the moral questions involved in the issues of war, poverty, racism and oppression."

Many participants and observers expressed their appreciation to the Merton Center for standing in solidarity with glbt individuals in their liberation struggle, one that is ultimately a struggle for the liberation of all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Thomas Merton Center is in a unique position as Pittsburgh’s peace and justice center for the past 30 years to make the vital connections between the glbt liberation struggle and other freedom struggles. The new TMC program, Technicolor Unity, will facilitate the making of these connections between race, gender, class and sexual orientation, in the belief that as we unite through the shared struggles that emerge from our differences, we broaden our foundation to affect change.

All are invited to be a part of building this united movement, and to start by coming to a picnic/meeting on Flagstaff Hill on Saturday, July 6, 1 to 3 pm. Call Marie at 412-361-3022 or email tmc.develop-ment@verizon.net for more information.
