Six Join Merton Center Board
The Merton Center Board of Directors has been expanded by the addition of six new members, all of whom have been active in TMC programs. They are:
Mark Egerman, a student at Carnegie Mellon University, who was the master of ceremonies for the November peace rally in Oakland and a key organizer for the Peace Refugee Camp on the CMU campus in December. He also participated in organizing the April 20 mobilization in Washington, D.C
Dessie Bey, an African-American poet and activist who currently works at the University of Pittsburgh in the University Challenge for Excellence Program to mentor minority students. She works closely with Dennis Brutus and was the key organizer of van trips to the World Economic Forum protests in New York in February.
Tara Sensenig, who has been active member at the Merton Center during her final year at the University of Pittsburgh, spending hours working with Development Director Marie Skoczylas. Tara has represented the Merton Center at a Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network training and is interested in interfaith organizing. She also organized one of the van trips to D.C. on April 21 for the Colombia Solidarity and SOA Watch actions.
Dan Kyle, another active volunteer member, has spent hours making phone calls, helping with mailings, and other chores. He currently works with kids caught up in the juvenile criminal justice system. His interest is in nonviolent conflict resolution among youth.
Saleh Waziruddin, a recent graduate of CMU is the key organizer of the Free Getu Coalition. Saleh is also one of the founders and an also activist with Zi, the group that organized the Dialogue For Democracy event. He has worked with Rev. Phil Wilson on the Getu case and has supported many of the Merton Center activities as a new member.
