Protest Planned for Global Justice
A one-day bus trip and a weekend van trip are being organized
from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C., for the annual IMF/World Bank protests,
September 27-29.
D.C. organizations are calling for direct action to shut down
the city and quarantine the IMF/WB meeting site. Seminars, teach-ins, puppets,
street theatre, and much more is planned.
Weekend van trips being organized by Pittsburgh Organizing
Group (www.organizePittsburgh.org). Buses will leave on Thursday evening, Sept.
26, and return late Sunday evening, Sept. 29. Round-trip cost will be $20, with
free housing provided in Washington for those needing it.
POG promises not to leave anyone behind, and to find a way
for anyone illegally arrested to get back to Pittsburgh.
To reserve a spot, email pog@mutualaid.org with as much
contact info as you’re comfortable giving. (You don’t have to give your real
name.) POG asks that you pay when you can, but hopefully by Sept 15. You can
also call The Merton Center at 412-361-3022 with your contact info and it will
be forwarded to the POG organizers.
A general organizing meeting for the trip is scheduled for
Sunday, Sept. 8, 5:30 p.m., at a place to be determined. Contact POG or TMC if
interested.
A one-day bus trip on Saturday, Sept. 28, is being organized
by the Thomas Merton Center (www.thomasmertoncenter.org). Cost for the trip will
be $30.
Paul Leblanc has agreed to organize this trip and will be in
touch with all those who sign up to inform you of details as they are finalized.
If there is not enough interest to fill up a bus, car and/or van pools will be
organized.
