TMC's Educational Materials on US attacks on Afghanistan

The Education Committee has as its mission providing an educational resource on the recent events, and offers several services to the community, including arranging talks and events at local community groups.  The following are links to what we feel are some of the most useful sources on recent events.  These articles together provide context for recent events as well as a variety of perspectives on US foreign policy and peaceful alternatives currently missing from the US media.  This page is being constantly updated, and comments are welcome!

  1. Why have people opposed the war in Afghanistan?
  2. What other policy options could the US have pursued?
  3. What are the root causes of the conflict?
  4. What is the history of the region?
  5. What does the immediate future of Afghanistan Hold?
  6. What has been the backlash against immigrants and against civil liberties?
  7. How has the US Media covered the conflict?
  8. What has been the opposition to the war ?
  9. What are other resources on peaceful perspectives on the Conflict?

The links are to a variety of websites and publications, and please note that the copyright remains with them.  Please notify us if any of the links are broken.  We have loosely borrowed the format from the University of Louisville’s Peace and Justice group, and encourage you to borrow these materials and links for your own educational materials.

"I am against war, against violence, against violent revolution, for peaceful settlement of differences, for nonviolent but nevertheless radical changes. Change is needed, and violence will not really change anything: at most it will only transfer power from one set of bull-beaded authorities to another."  Thomas Merton
