• American Civil Liberties Union Founded in 1920 and still defending the civil liberties of all Americans

• Free Getu Coalition Committed to justice for Getu Tewolde, a legal Ethiopian immigrant who was arrested and beaten by police at the Pittsburgh Greyhound bus station as part of the post 9-11 race hysteria sweeping the nation

 DEATH PENALTY

• Pennsylvania Death Penalty 2002  Daily updates on what is happening with the death penalty and abolitionist efforts throughout Pennsylvania

• Pennsylvania Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty A statewide abolitionist group with an active chapter in Pittsburgh

• National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty A national network of abolitionists and hosts an annual conference for organizers

• Death Penalty Information Center Perhaps the best source of information about the death penalty in the U.S.  Great for research papers and as a media resource

 GLOBAL ECONOMIC JUSTICE

• Pittsburgh Organizing Group A small group of Pitt students and student aged community members who are concerned with social justice and environmental issues locally, nationally and internationally.
• Mobilization for Global Justice Organizes national mobilizations to oppose  IMF and World Bank policies  A great resource for grassroots activists containing flyers and information on the IMF and World Bank
• 50 Years is Enough: U.S. Network for Global Economic Justice An excellent resource on the movement for global economic justice
• Anti-Capitalist Convergence Organizes national days of resistance to the IMF/World Bank in Washington, DC and provides great posters and flyers through their website

INDEPENDENT MEDIA

• Pittsburgh Independent Media Center A web-based independent media source for Pittsburgh affiliated with Independent Media Center
• THE NEWPEOPLE Pittsburgh's alternative news source on justice and peace issues with a monthly distribution of over 6,000 and currently expanding
• Zi An activist organization in Pittsburgh that aims to use verifiable facts and analysis to counter misinformation and its role and effects on popular culture and government policy.
• Common Dreams News Center  A web-based collection of  news articles that often do not make it into the mainstream press

NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE TO WAR

• Voices in the Wilderness Campaign initiated by Kathy Kelly to end the sanctions against the people of Iraq and to oppose current U.S. military policy in the region
• Tikkun A Jewish organization seeking peace based on justice in Israel and the Middle East
• School of the Americas Watch Dedicated to shutting down the U.S. Army School of the Americas, a U.S. financed terrorist training camp for Latin-American military terrorists
• National Mobilization on Colombia A coalition of organization dedicated to ending the U.S. financed war against  the people of Colombia
• War Resisters League Organized in 1923 and continues to call for the elimination of all war  Great source of anti-war literature and information
• Pax Christi USA The national Catholic Peace Movement.

TRANSIT ADVOCACY

• Save Our Transit A coalition of Pittsburgh bus riders and transit activists that advocate for increased public funding for transit
• National Association of Railroad Passengers Lobbies for increased public funding for Amtrak and for a better nation-wide passenger rail system.
